The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), established on September 29, 1688, is responsible for property tax collection in Chennai. As a property owner, it’s crucial to note that this tax must be paid every six months. This arrangement is because the GCC determines the total annual tax liability and then divides it into two equal payments for each half-yearly period.
The Property ID is a unique 13-digit number, with the first two digits representing the zone, the following three representing the ward, the next five indicating the Bill Number, and the last three digits representing the Sub Number.
Different fees apply to various payment methods:
– For credit cards, a Service Tax of 1.75 percent of the bill amount, plus a 10.30 percent education cess on the Service Tax.
– Net banking: Rs 5 per transaction, plus a 10.30% service tax and education cess of Rs 6.
You can also make offline property tax payments in Chennai by visiting designated bank walk-in counters, or through the Electronic Clearing Scheme (ECS), which is a semi-online offline method.
